Why the name Claxonola.com?

Claxtonola was a short-lived 78 rpm record label in operation from 1921 until 1925. For the first several years, Claxtonola records were made by the New York Recording Laboratories. Production was taken over by Gennett Records in 1924. Some of the finest early jazz musicians (Joe "King" Oliver, Louis Armstrong, and Bix Beiderbecke to name a few) who recorded for Gennett had records released under the Claxtonola label, often under pseudonyms. Today, Claxtonola records are quite scarce and highly sought-after among record collectors. I have a few Claxtonola records in my collection and I've always liked the way the name "Claxtonola" sounds -- it's fun to say!

I have had many people e-mail me requesting more information about the Claxtonola label or Claxtonola phonographs. Most of what I know about the Claxtonola label is stated above and unfortuantely, I don't know much about the wind-up phonographs marketed under the Claxtonola name. If you have a Claxtonola phonograph, there are many others on the web more qualified than I am to help you with any questions you may have about it. If you have any information about Claxtonola phonographs, please contact me and I will post it here. I would also be interested in posting pictures of Claxtonola phonographs and if time permits, perhaps compiling an online discography of Claxtonola records.
