Welcome to the Golden Age of Radio!

"Old Time Radio" (OTR) typically refers to all local and network radio programming on the air from the beginning of commercial radio in 1920 to the demise of major network radio drama in the early 1960s. Before television, radio provided entertainment, news, and information to millions of homes around the world. This site is primarily concerned with American broadcasts of the late 1920s through the early 1960s.

Many of the television programs we have today can be traced back to similar programs on radio beginning in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Newscasts, quiz shows, musical programs, dramatic features (westerns, science fiction programs, situation comedies, mysteries, soap operas, horror), documentaries, children's programs, and commercials were all developed and perfected in less than a forty-year span before moving to television in the 1950s. Fortunately, many recordings and scripts of these early radio broadcasts survive, allowing us to study and enjoy them first-hand.
